Student Employment

Explore different student employment options at ACPHS

Almost one third of students participate in student employment at ACPHS in some capacity. This includes positions as student office assistants, peer tutors, resident assistants, or participating with faculty in grant research.

The employment opportunities on campus are broken down into following categories:

FEDERAL WORK STUDY (FWS) POSITIONS

FWS positions compose the majority of the employment opportunities on campus and encompass all of the off-campus community service positions. To be considered for FWS, a student must have filed a valid FAFSA for the current academic year and show financial need. Students who have been awarded a FWS grant are notified in their financial aid package. Students who have not been awarded a FWS grant, but are interested in finding out if they may be eligible, can contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information or email student_employment@lkgear.com.

REGULAR STUDENT EMPLOYMENT POSITIONS

Regular student employment positions are fulfilled by departments on campus with vacancies. These positions do not have a financial need component and therefore any student may qualify for hire. For consideration, you will need to apply for a position that you are interested in with the hiring entity.

GRANT RESEARCH POSITIONS

Grant research positions are hired by a faculty member on campus. The employees are selected by the hiring faculty member. These positions do not have a financial need component and therefore any student may qualify for hire.

RESIDENT ASSISTANT (RA)

A Resident Assistant is a trained paraprofessional who supervises those living in the residence halls. Resident Assistants provide programs in the residence halls, crisis intervention and are a great resource for the residents in the buildings. The RA’s are supervised by a Resident Director and by the Assistant Director of Residence Life.  All information about requirements or eligibility can be found by attending an information session at the beginning of each spring semester. If interested in an RA position, please contact the Office of Residence Life.

Helpful Hints for Completing Student Employment Forms

  • When completing your paperwork you should not leave any lines blank. Please complete all highlighted areas. Enter a zero (0) or a dash (--) if something does not apply to you.
  • You may claim "exempt" on the federal W-4 if you will not earn enough money from all of your jobs to have a taxable income. If you choose this option, all taxes withheld would be refunded when you complete your tax returns.
  • You must complete only one of the New York State forms provided. You must complete the IT-2104E if you would like to claim "exempt" for state taxes. You must complete the IT-2104 if you are not exempt. Please do not complete both forms.
  • Participation in the direct deposit program is encouraged so that you do not need to travel to a bank to cash your payroll check. Direct deposit will also prevent delay in getting paid during breaks.
